The Applied Fluvial Geomorphology course combines lecture and field applications to familiarize students with the fundamentals of river behavior and the general principles of fluvial geomorphology. Applications of these principles are presented using a stream classification system. Specific topics include:
Field sessions include a field exercise where students will classify a stream; students will also travel to a streamgage station for the purposes of calibrating bankfull discharge, developing regional curves, and validating hydraulic relationships. The class will also observe a range of problems impacting stream systems and a variety of river restoration and enhancement projects. This basic river morphology course has been offered since 1986 and utilizes the Applied Fluvial Geomorphology book (Rosgen, 1996).
Credit card information is required during registration to reserve a spot in all courses. Credit cards are charged only after confirmed acceptance into a course, and registered participants will be notified via email prior to transactions. All students are required to register through our online registration system. All course tuition payments will be charged on January 1st of the year attending the short course. No exceptions. Arrangements to pay by check can be made (payable to Wildland Hydrology or for all Asheville, NC location classes, paid to Resource Institute – class sponsor), although a credit card is still REQUIRED to reserve a spot. WE DO NOT ACCEPT purchase orders, SF 182 forms, or electronic transfers. If paying by company check, Wildland Hydrology must receive your check by no later than January 1st of the year attending the short course. If no check is received by this date, the student will automatically be dropped from the course. No exceptions.
Full tuition must be paid by no later than the January 1st of the year attending the short course. We no longer accept or charge course deposits. We only charge full course tuition amounts. The credit card on file will be charged unless an alternative payment is received. The fee for each course includes the course tuition and course materials only; participants are all responsible for their own food and lodging unless noted otherwise; paid directly to the resort or business; not paid through Wildland Hydrology. If full payment is not received by January 1st of the year attending the short course, the student will automatically be dropped from the course and we will go to the waitlist to fill this new open spot. No exceptions. Students are not allowed to roll their paid tuition to the next year if they cancel from a course. If they cancel and cannot find a substitute, they will forfeit their paid tuition.
